The Conferment Ceremony and Oration were held at Lim Por Yen Lecture Theatre on 18 December 2020.
27th Annual Fellowship Conferment Ceremony
The Conferment Ceremony was unique this year because the Academy is committed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health of all participants. The decision by the Academy Council to change the format was not an easy one. Most of the participants, including all the new Fellows, joined virtually online. Officiating the Conferment Ceremony were the Academy’s Council members and our distinguished guests.
Presentation of Honorary Fellowship
Prof. John Chi-yan Leong was conferred Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his outstanding achievements and meritorious contributions to the medical profession and the community.
Admission of Academy Fellows

Presentation of Plaques of Appreciation
The Plaques were presented to several former Officers and Council members in recognition of their services and contributions to the Academy Council.

Handover of Presidential Badge
The term of office of Prof. Chak-sing Lau, as the Academy’s 7th President, completed at the end of the Conferment Ceremony. Prof. Lau handed over the Presidential Badge to Prof. Gilberto Ka-kit Leung, the newly elected President, while Prof. Leung presented a Past President Badge to Prof. Lau. Prof. Lau will stay in the Council for one year as Immediate Past President.
2020 David Todd Oration
The David Todd Oration was established as the most prestigious lecture of the Academy to honour the late Prof. Sir David Todd, Founding President of the Academy. To recognise Sir Todd’s profound contributions to the Academy, an oration in his name is being held annually.
The Academy was honoured to have Prof. Ka-leung Chan, Dean, Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, delivered the Oration, titled “Being a Leader” this year.
