Election
of Officers
The term of office of the existing Officers, i.e. President,
Vice-President (Gen. Affairs), Vice-President (Edu. & Exams.), Honorary
Secretary, Honorary Treasurer and Editor, will expire in December.
Election process will start in August, and results will be announced at
the AGM to be held on 17 December 2004.
Renovations
at the Academy Building
After years of expansion, existing office spaces for some Colleges
become insufficient. The 6th
floor of the Academy building has recently been converted into office spaces.
Colleges of Pathologists, Physicians and Surgeons will be moving to a
larger chamber on the 6/F in September.
Council has approved the recommendation of the House Committee to
renovate the Grand Hall, in order to provide better services for conferences
held at the Academy. The renovation
is expected to be completed in early September.

Hong
Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine celebrates its 10th Anniversary
and its successful inclusion in the EMBASE (Excerpta Medica) database
The
Hong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine (HKJEM) is a peer-reviewed quarterly
publication of the Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine and The Hong Kong
Society for Emergency Medicine and Surgery.
The HKJEM is the only emergency medicine journal published in Southeast
Asia and the only English one in the Far East.

Free Trial of eKG at the Academy
Library
The Hospital Authority has kindly offered
free trial of their electronic Knowledge Gateway (eKG) at the Academy
Library for a period of 3 months, starting from 1 June 2004. Fellows can access to the eKG via Internet at the library on 3/F of the
Academy Building free of charge. The Academy Library opens from
12:00 to 21:00 from Mondays to Saturdays; and from 9:00 to 21:00 on
Sundays and public holidays. Please click below to see more details of the

Grant
Applications
The Research Fund for the Control of Infectious Diseases and the Health
and Health Services Research Fund have issued a joint call for research
grant applications. The
closing date is 11 September 2004. Application
forms and guidance notes can be downloaded from the Research Fund
Secretariat’s website at http://www.hwfb.gov.hk/grants.
Symposium
& Workshop & Assessment in Medical Education
The
Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong will hold a 3-day
symposium from 29th to 31st October 2004. The theme is
"Symposium & Workshop & Assessment in Medical Education:
Asian & International Perspectives". Topics will iclude
Philosophy of Assessment, Models of Assessment, Standardization of
Assessment, Undergraduate & Postgraudate Assessment, Medical Education
Outcome Assessment and Workshops on setting questiona and validation.
