Infection control in residential care homes for the elderly in Hong Kong (2005-2014)
Between 2005 and 2014, annual cross-sectional surveys on infection control practices were conducted at all residential care homes for the elderly in Hong Kong. These inspections included self-administered questionnaires, on-site interviews, inspections, and assessments conducted by trained nurses. Despite the increasing age of the residents, this study by Wong et al found that there were strong improvements in terms of manpower and facilities. However, improvements in infection control knowledge and skills among staff reached a plateau. Compliance with proper infection control practices is necessary, to protect the ageing residents in these facilities.

The authors recommend long-term studies on the effectiveness of such exercise programmes in Hong Kong, to inform future guidelines on osteoarthritis management.
