Message from the President, Prof. Raymond Liang, October 2010

Dear Fellows,

I wish you have had a good summer despite the very high temperature! After the summer, we are going into the very busy season of the Academy. Many Colleges will have their Annual Meetings and Conferment Ceremonies in the coming months. There will also be our First Tripartite Congress with the Academies of Malaysia and Singapore, to be held in the middle of November. The Organizing Committee, under the able leadership of Dr Donald Li, has prepared for you an excellent scientific and social programme. Please come and meet our friends from South East Asia.

Before the summer, letters were sent to all Fellows asking if they would like to be included in the Academy’s List of Fellows who are willing to be Medical Expert Witness for various purposes. I am glad to see that over 350 Fellows have responded positively. The data provided are now being checked and the final list will be available soon.

Smoking remains a very serious health issue. The Academy is collaborating with the Department of Health of the Hong Kong SAR Government in Smoking Cessation. Dr Ronald Lam, Head of Department of Health’s Tobacco Control Office, has visited and briefed the Council before the summer. The collaboration shall include training and education. This project will have the assistance from Mayo Clinic and also the endorsement from World Health Organization. We are looking forward to seeing your active participation.

My very best wishes

Professor Raymond Liang
President
