Election of Officers

During the 19th AGM held on 14 December 2012, results of the election of Officers were announced.

o In accordance with the HKAM Ordinance, an election was conducted earlier. 6 nominations were received before the deadline of 24 August 2012. As there was only one nominee for each of the 6 posts, the candidates were elected to their respective post ipso facto.

Fellowship Conferment/David Todd Oration

The Academy's AGM, Fellowship Conferment Ceremony and David Todd Oration were well attended by Fellows and guests on 14 December 2012.

The 2012 orator was Prof. LEE, Sum Ping, Dean and Dexter HC Man Family Professor in Medical Science at the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong. The video of his oration has now been uploaded to the iCMECPD (http://www.icmecpd.hk). Fellows who were unable to attend the oration can log in iCMECPD to view Prof Lee's presentation.

Best Original Paper Award (BOPA)

2012 marks the 6th year of the Best Original Paper Award, presented by the Editorial Board of the Hong Kong Medical Journal, to encourage original writings of good quality by doctors. Three papers were shortlisted by the local Editorial Board and sent to the International Editorial Advisory Board for a final adjudication. The winner of the 2012 Best Original Paper Award went to Dr Edward HC Wong et al, for their paper entitled 'Is stroke thrombolysis safe and efficacious in Hong Kong?'.

 


 

Best Original Research by Trainees (BORT)

The result of the 2012 BORT was announced during the Conferment Ceremony on 14 December 2012 and the medals were presented to the 3 winners. The Academy would like to thank the Panel of Judges for their time and works. The Panel consists of Prof. Lo Chung Mau (Panel Chairman), Dr. Kam Chak Wah, Prof. Linda Lam, Prof. Raymond Liang, Dr. Leung Ting Hung, and Prof. Lau Chak Sing. The Academy would also like to thank the trainees who have submitted their papers for this competition.

MPS-HKAM Award for Patient Safety

The MPS-HKAM Award for Patient Safety is jointly organized by the Medical Protection Society (MPS) and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM). The objective of the Award is to encourage medical professionals to promote on the subject of patient safety and risk reduction.

This year’s award went to Dr. LO Wing Kee, whose paper is "Use of Handheld Digital Device at Bedside to Reduce Medication Errors".

2012 Golf Tournament

The HKAM Golf Tournament 2012 was successfully held on 21 November 2012 at Kau Sai Chau Jockey Club Public Golf Club, Hong Kong. A total 33 Academy fellows, alumni of HKU and CUHK participated. Chinese New Year

HKAM 20th Anniversary

It will be the Academy's 20th Anniversary next year. A 20th Anniversary Congress will be held on 8-10 December 2013 to celebrate the occasion. The theme will be "Manpower needs in medicine: moving with the times" The Organising Committee, chaired by the Vice-President (General Affairs), is working on the programme for the celebration.

2nd AMM-AMS-HKAM Tripartite Congress / 47th Singapore-Malaysia Congress of Medicine

The 2nd AMM-AMS-HKAM Tripartite Congress and 47th SMCM will be held in Singapore on 23-24 August 2013. The three Academies in Hong Kong (HKAM), Malaysia (AMM) and Singapore (AMS) agreed to have tripartite congress in every three years starting from 2010. The first tripartite congress was hosted by HKAM and successfully held in Hong Kong in 2010.
