Press Briefing on the Safe Use of Steroids on 21 November 2012

The Academy held a press briefing on 21 November 2012 to inform the public about the safe use of steroids due to the apparent steroid phobia in the general public.

Dr. C.L. Law, Chairman of the Public Relations Committee, chaired the press briefing, and keynote speakers included Dr. Alvin Chan from the College of Family Physicians, Prof. Leung Tin Fan from the College of Paediatricians, Dr. Ho King Man and Dr. Mok Chi Chiu from the College of Physicians. They shared their views that the proper use of steroids can be very useful for many treatments but due to the misunderstanding of its usage and possible side effects, the public has developed a phobia to steroid-based treatments, and this may lead to improper use, which can cause adverse side effects. The press briefing was attended by 20 members of the press from printed/electronic media.
