Fellowship Conferment/David Todd Oration
The Academy's AGM, Fellowship Conferment Ceremony and David Todd Oration were well attended by Fellows and guests on 16 December 2011.
The 2011 orator was Prof. Dennis Lo, FRS, Li Ka Shing Professor of Medicine & Professor of Chemical Pathology of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The video of his oration will be available on the Academy website soon.

Best Original Paper Award (BOPA)
This year marks the 5th year of the Best Original Paper Award, presented by the Editorial Board of the Hong Kong Medical Journal, to encourage original writings of good quality by doctors. Three papers were shortlisted by the local Editorial Board and sent to the International Editorial Advisory Board for a final adjudication. The winner of the 2011 Best Original Paper Award went to Dr KF Lee et al, for their paper entitled 'Risk of development of diabetes mellitus in Chinese women with persistently impaired glucose tolerance after gestational diabetes'.
Best Original Research by Trainees (BORT)
The result of the 2011 BORT was announced during the Conferment Ceremony on 16 December 2011 and the medals were presented to the 3 winners. The Academy would like to thank the Panel of Judges for their time and works. The Panel consists of Prof. Lo Chung Mau (Panel Chairman), Dr. Kam Chak Wah, Prof. Linda Lam, Prof. Raymond Liang, Dr. Leung Ting Hung, and Dr. C.T. Hung. The Academy would also like to thank the trainees who have submitted their papers for this competition.

MPS-HKAM Award for Patient Safety
The MPS-HKAM Award for Patient Safety is jointly organized by the Medical Protection Society (MPS) and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM). The objective of the Award is to encourage medical professionals to promote on the subject of patient safety and risk reduction.
This year’s award went to Dr. Alexander Chiu, whose paper is "Root Cause Analysis Improves Patient Safety: A descriptive study of Root Cause Analysis Framework applied to clinical incident investigation in a University Affiliated Hospital".

2011 Golf Tournament
The HKAM Golf Tournament 2011 was successfully held on 30 November 2011 at Kau Sai Chau Jockey Club Public Golf Club, Hong Kong. A total 44 Academy fellows, alumni of HKU and CUHK participated. New Subspecialty - Pain Medicine
The Education Committee and Council of the Academy have approved a new subspecialty "Pain Medicine" under the College of Anaesthesiologists.
The College will develop the necessary training documents for endorsement by the Academy’s Education Committee.
The AOGIN 2012 will be held at University of Hong Kong on 13-15 July 2012. Theme of the conference is "Combat against Cervical Cancer - Challenges in Asia Oceania".
