List of Fellows who are interested in acting as expert witness

The Academy has been approached from time to time by the Police, Medical Council / Dental Council and legal firms for assistance in identifying Fellows to be expert witness. In this regard, the Academy plans to compile a list of Fellows who are interested in being expert witness, which will be made available to the Police, other government departments, Medical Council, Dental Council, and legal firms upon formal request.

The Academy would like to invite interested Fellows to be included in this list. It is also hoped that Fellows intending to be included in the list could attend relevant courses in order that they would know better how to conduct themselves fairly and professionally, and be more able to produce an impartial expert report of adequate quality.

Please complete and return the reply form to the Academy before 15 August 2010, if you are interested to be included in the list. Please note that the List will be updated regularly and the Academy will have discretion not to include a Fellow in the List.

Communicating right when things go wrong

The Academy and Medical Protection Society (MPS) jointly invite you to this seminar. Clinicians occasionally encounter situations when management outcome is suboptimal and clients are unhappy. Due to a multitude of factors, communication is often difficult especially when involving debatable issues during the technical management process. Yet this is the occasion where communication has to be right.

The General CPD Subcommittee has invited several prominent speakers to share views and experience on communication when clinical management outcomes are less favourable. This seminar delivers messages on how to manage medical mishaps from the MPS perspective and about open disclosure from the medico-legal perspectives. An experienced colleague also shares her vast experience with disclosing adversity.

The seminar is free of charge.
