First AMM-AMS-HKAM Tripartite Congress
12-14 November 2010, Hong Kong
The First Tripartite Congress of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, and Academy of Medicine, Singapore will be held from 12-14 November 2010 in Hong Kong. This will also be the 44th Malaysia-Singapore Congress of Medicine. The theme of the Congress is “Benefits and Risks of Recent Medical Advances”. This tripartite congress will be an opportunity for networking that enables Fellows and members of the three Academies to share their knowledge and experience with their peers in the region, and to make contacts that may lead to future collaborations.
The Hong Kong Medical Journal (HKMJ) Forum is now officially launched
The HKMJ is happy to announce the launch of its Forum. The Forum is still very young and needs active Fellows who are willing to contribute. Everybody can read the threads, but Fellows who would like to participate in the discussion need to register and log in first. Extraordinary General Meeting - 17 June 2010
Council has decided to hold an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on 17 June 2010 (Thurs) to admit new Fellows. The EGM will be held at 7:30 pm at the Council Chamber, 10/F HKAM Jockey Club Building, 99 Wong Chuk Hang Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong. All Fellows are welcome to attend.

Prize for Best Original Research by Trainees
The Prize for Best Original Research by Trainees of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine recognizes excellence in research done by doctors who are in specialist training. Submission deadline for the year 2010 award is now extended to 31 July 2010 (postmark). Interested trainee doctors can download the following documents (PDF and MS Word format) for reference and use.

Coffee and Food Pairing
About 30 coffee fans joined the coffee tasting on 19 April 2010 and enjoyed the food pairing with different types of coffees.
Conference on Medical Errors
Over a hundred participants attended the conference on 19 April 2010. The conference ended with enthusiastic questions from the floor. Owing to the overwhelming responses, the Academy will continue to organize events in similar topics in future.
2010 Annual Subscriptions
Demand notes for the 2010 subscriptions have been sent to Fellows. Please be reminded that it is Council's policy that subscriptions received by the Academy after 30 June will be subject to a surcharge of 5% on the subscription amount. Please settle your subscription as soon as possible. For Fellows who have authorized payment via bank transfer, payments will be deducted from their bank accounts automatically. Fellows who have not given their authorization but are interested in paying their future subscriptions via bank autopay please contact Ms Florence Chiu at 2871 8804.
CME/CPD Reminder
The current CME/CPD cycle for Academy Fellows will end on 31 December 2010. All Fellows who are on the Specialist Register (SR) of the Medical Council or Dental Council will need to fulfil the requirements of the Academy to remain on the SR. Fellows, except those exempted for CME/CPD due to retirement, are also required to fulfil the requirements to maintain the Academy Fellowship. Starting from 1 January 2008, no more than 75 points can be awarded for passive participation in a 3-year cycle. Fellows are reminded to make sure they will obtain the required number of CME/CPD points before the end of this year, and to catch up if the points they have obtained so far falls behind greatly of the requirements.

The Secretariat would only send letters or notifications to Fellows using the contact information in the record that was provided by the Fellows themselves. Fellows can make use of the iCMECPD to change their correspondence address or personal details. If you have any queries or have forgotten the password, please submit your message to us via the iCMECPD website.
Maintenance
Some essential maintenance work will be carried out on the forecourt of the Academy building from May to August 2010. Car parking space may be limited during this period. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Solo Exhibition of New Drawings by Charles LaBelle at The Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences

The MobArt Gallery will present a solo exhibition of Charles LaBelle's new drawings at the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences (HKMMS) in May and June. This is an event to promote and raise fund for the HKMMS, as part of the proceeds from the sale of the artworks will be donated to HKMMS and the artist has offered to donate two pieces of his works for auction at the HKMMS annual dinner.
