First AMM-AMS-HKAM Tripartite Congress
The First Tripartite Congress of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia, and Academy of Medicine, Singapore will be held from 12-14 November 2010 in Hong Kong. This will also be the 44th Malaysia-Singapore Congress of Medicine. The theme of the Congress is “Benefits and Risks of Recent Medical Advances”. More information will be announced in due course.
Academy Policy on Reduced Subscription Rates
Fellows are requested to note that reduced rates (retired, overseas) will be effective from the next subscription year after submission of an application. Eligible Fellows should therefore submit their applications before 31 December 2009 if they wish to enjoy the reduced rates in year 2010. Details of the policy can be found in the Fellows Area of the Academy website.
Survey on Medical Professional Liability Insurance
The Academy is now conducting an online survey on medical professional liability insurance. Fellows should have received an email notice on this earlier. Please take a few minutes to complete the online survey at http://hkam.questionpro.com, before 15 October 2009, if you have not yet done so.
David Todd Oration/Annual General Meeting
This year’s AGM and David Todd Oration will be held on 18 December 2009. The Academy is delighted to have Prof. Ron Zimmern to speak on Genomics, Personalised Medicine and the Role of Public Health in the 21st Century at the Oration. Prof. Ron Zimmern is the Executive Director of the PHG Foundation, the successor to the Public Health Genetics Unit which he established in 1997.

Annual Scientific Meeting in Ophthalmology (ASM 2009)
The ASM in Ophthalmology 2009, organised by the Hong Kong College of Ophthalmologists, will be held from 5-6 December 2009 at The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The theme for the ASM 2009 meeting is “Glaucoma”. This will be a two-day comprehensive scientific programme covering advances in Glaucoma. 2009 Health Manpower Survey
The Department of Health has requested the Academy to help remind Fellows that the 2009 Health Manpower Survey (HMS) will start in October. The HMS aims to collect up-to-date information on the size, characteristics and employment status of healthcare personnel to facilitate the development and planning of health workforce in Hong Kong . Self-administered questionnaires will be sent together with the letters for renewal of practising certificates to all doctors in Hong Kong .
