Election of Council Members

The term of office of the 5 elected/co-opted Council member will expire at the conclusion of this year’s annual general meeting. Election process will start in July, and results will be announced at the AGM to be held in December 2009. Fellows will receive the nomination form shortly. Completed nomination form must reach the Academy office before 5 p.m. on 14 September 2009.

 


 

Admission of Fellows

A total of 116 new Fellows were admitted at the extraordinary general meeting held on 18 June 2009.

 


 

Educational Workshop

The Education Workshop held on 6 June was attended by over 50 representatives from the Academy Colleges, two medical schools, Hospital Authority, Medical Council and Dental Council. The two speakers, Prof. Ed Peile and Prof. Richard Reznick, have shared their views on curriculum design, training and assessment with the participants. The Colleges of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, Psychiatrists and Surgeons have also presented the developments in training and curriculum during the workshop.

43rd Singapore-Malaysia Congress of Medicine

The Academy has been invited to hold a parallel session during the 43rd Singapore-Malaysia Congress of Medicine on 8 August 2009. The theme of the Congress is "Reducing Mortality and Morbidity in the Next Decade". The delegation from Hong Kong this time will include 3 speakers: Prof. Raymond Liang, Prof. L.K. Hung, and Prof. Tony Chung. Their topics are "Hepatitis B reactivation following chemotherapy", "Parenteral nutrition for debilitated patients", and "Cancer screening in women" respectively.
