Todd Oration and Annual Dinner
This
year's David Todd Oration will be held on 30 November (Thursday) together
with the 13th AGM, Fellowship Conferment Ceremony and Annual Dinner.
Baroness
Finlay of Llandaff,
President of Royal Society of Medicine,
London
, has kindly agreed to be this year’s orator for the David Todd Oration.
She is an expert in Palliative Medicine and will speak on “Difficult
decisions at the end of life”. Due

Collaboration
with Ministry of Health on Specialist Registration in Mainland
Following
the meeting held in Hong Kong on 1 August 2006, the Ministry of Health (MOH)
organised a “Seminar on the Specialist Registration System” on 14th
September 2006 in
Beijing
. Vice Minister Huang Jie-fu, Zhang Zong-jiu,
the Deputy Director General of the Department of Medical Administration of
MOH, and other representatives and experts in Mainland attended the
seminar. Prof. Grace Tang,
President,
Dr.
CT
Hung, Vice-President (Edu. & Exams), and
Dr. CW Chan, elected Council Member were invited to attend representing
the Academy. Discussions
were focused on piloting work for the system.

Academy
Policy on Reduced Subscription Rates
Fellows
are requested to note that reduced rates (retired, overseas) will be
effective from the next subscription year after submission of an
application. Eligible
Fellows should therefore submit their applications before 31 December 2006
if they wish to enjoy the reduced rates in year 2007.

HKAM Press has moved into the newly renovated Room 901 on 9/F of the
Academy building on 15 September 2006 . The new office, with a design that matches the rest of the Academy's office, now houses the 3 permanent staff and the two part-time Executive Editors. There is a conference area for meetings and a display area showing the various publications produced by the HKAM Press.

Health Manpower Survey
The
Department of Health has requested the Academy to help remind Fellows that
the 2006 Health Manpower Survey (HMS) has started.
The HMS aims to collect up-to-date information on the size,
characteristics and employment status of healthcare personnel to
facilitate the development and planning of health workforce in
Hong Kong
. Self-administered
questionnaires will be sent together with the letters for renewal of practising
certificates to all doctors in
Hong Kong
. The
deadline for submission of questionnaire is 29 December 2006.
