Election of Officers
David Todd Oration This year’s David Todd Oration has been scheduled for 13 December 2002, Dr. Bernard Langer, President of College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, will deliver a talk on “Continuous Professional Development – Good for both Doctors and Patients”. Several colleges have accredited CME points for this Oration (Dental Surgeons: 0.5 pt; Emergency Medicine: 0.5 pt; Family Physicians: 1 pt; Otorhinolaryngologists: 0.5 pt; Radiologists: 1 pt; Surgeons: 0.5 pt). Fellows can attend free of charge. The Academy’s AGM, the Best Original Research by Trainees Awards, Fellowship Conferment will be held at the same evening.
MLMS As reported earlier, MLMS will start in phases initially with 5 Colleges namely Anaesthesiologists, Community Medicine, Dental Surgeons, Emergency Medicine and Radiologists. Members of these 5 Colleges should receive a letter and their account information in early October. Please contact Shirley Chen on 2871 8804 or Kristy Cheung on 2871 8897 should members of these 5 Colleges have any query after they have received the letter.
The Academy will hold a half-day seminar for the MCHK CME Programme on 2 November 2002. Topics are Ulcer (by Prof. Joseph Sung); Irritable Bowel Syndrome (by Dr. WM Hui), Basic Concept of Anaemia (by Prof. TK Chan); Hepatitis (by Dr. Nancy Leung). CME accreditation is being applied from Colleges. The seminar will be held at the Academy building from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. All Fellows are welcome to attend. It is free for all Fellows. First Intercollegiate Scientific Meeting The Academy’s 1st Intercollegiate Scientific Meeting will be held on 9 & 10 November at the Academy Building. This year’s theme is Minimally Invasive Medicine. Topics cover Acute Renal Failure, Liver Tumour, Bronchogenic Carcinoma, Sinusitis, Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, Aortic Aneurysm, Coronary Artery Disease and Colorectal Tumours. The topic for Keith Halan Lecture, which will be part of the Scientific Meeting this year, is From Open Surgery to Robotics.
