Delegation from Ministry of Health

A delegation of 17 persons from the Ministry of Health visited the Academy from 22 to 24 August.  The delegation came to study the Hong Kong specialist training, accreditation and registration system.  During the 3-day visit, the delegation met the representatives of the Academy and 7 Colleges, namely Community Medicine, Dental Surgeons, Family Physicians, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Paediatricians, Pathologists and Surgeons.  The delegation also met the Past Presidents Advisory Committee, Medical Council and visited 3 training units.  The Academy and members of the delegation have exchanged views and shared experience in many areas including training system, examinations, legal aspects and finance.  Discussions were very fruitful.

The President and the other 3 representatives of the Academy, namely Dr. CT Hung, Dr. David Fang and Dr. CW Chan, welcomed the delegation on the first day of the visit.  A group photo was taken at the Academy's building after a meeting to introduce the background of the Academy and a general view of the specialist system in Hong Kong.

Improvement on Facilities

Council has endorsed the recommendation from the House Committee to install motorized blinds at the Exhibition Hall.  This will help screen sunlight and save air-conditioning expenses.  A BBQ counter will also be constructed at the Fellows Garden on 3/F outside the Academy Lounge.   These works will be finished by the end of September.

Besides the Academy Lounge, Fellows can also book the guest rooms at the Academy for temporary accommodation.  Fellows who are planning for their home refurbishment may find this facility useful.  Interested Fellows can contact the Academy’s Conference Department on 2871 8787 for details.

Non-compliance of CME/CPD

In accordance with the Academy Bylaws, the Academy Council at its August meeting terminated the Fellowship of four Fellows who failed to fulfill the CME requirements for their cycle ending 31 December 2004.  Removed Fellows can apply to reinstate their Fellows subject to certain conditions.  The information for reinstatement of Fellowship can be found in the Fellows Area of the Academy’s website.
