Collaboration
with Ministry of Health on Specialist Registration in Mainland On 13 July 2007, Vice Minister of Health, Prof Huang Jie-fu and representatives from Ministry of Health had a working meeting with Hong Kong advisors on the Preparatory Committee, and representatives from Colleges of Dental Surgeons, Ophthalmologists, Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Paediatricians. The meeting agreed on a working schedule for launching the pilot scheme in September. Meanwhile, the four Hong Kong Colleges will discuss with the piloting hospitals about giving training to grandfathers who will probably be trainers for future specialists in mainland. Representatives from the 4 piloting hospitals will visit the Academy in August.
HKAM participating in 41st Singapore-Malaysia Congress of Medicine An Academy delegation consisting of the Academy President, Presidents and representative from colleges of Dental Surgeons, Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, Paediatricians, Physicians, Radiologists and Surgeons attended the 41st SMCM during 19-22 July 2007. The 41st SMCM was also held in celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of the
Election of Council Members The term of office of the 5 elected/co-opted Council member will expire at the conclusion of this year’s annual general meeting. Election process started and nomination forms were sent to all Fellow in July. Nominations must be delivered to the Academy before 5 p.m. on 7 September 2007. Results will be announced at the AGM to be held in December 2007.
Awards Dr.
Lilian Leong, President of Hong Kong College of Radiologists, was awarded
an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science by the University
of Aberdeen on 5 July 2007. Dr.
Donald Li, Past President of Hong Kong College of Family Physicians, was
elected the WONCA
President of the Asia Pacific Region at the annual meeting of the WONCA
World Conference held in Prof.
Tony Chung, President of Hong Kong College of Obstetricians &
Gynaecologists, Dr. John Ling, President of College of Dental Surgeons of
Hong Kong, and Prof. Louis Low, President of Hong Kong College of
Paediatricians, were awarded Fellowship of the Hong Kong Red Cross: China Relief 2007 – Emergency Appeal III Hong Kong Red Cross is appealing for donations for the recent disaster due to continuing torrential rains causing overflow of many rivers and streams in south China. Reminder The current CME/CPD cycle for Academy Fellows will end on 31 December
2007. All Fellows who
are on the Specialist Register (SR) of the Medical Council or Dental
Council will need to fulfill the requirements of the Academy to remain on
the SR. Fellows, except those
exempted for CME/CPD due to retirement, are also required to fulfill the
requirements to maintain the Academy Fellowship.
Fellows are reminded to make sure they will obtain the required
number of CME/CPD points before the end of this year, and to catch up if
the points they have obtained so far fall
short of the requirements greatly.
