Doctor Work Reform The Hospital Authority is now conducting the consultation on Doctor Work Reform (DWR), and has invited Professor Dame Carol Black, President of Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, to share the UK experience with Hong Kong. A lecture will be held at 10:00am to 12:30pm on 13 June 2007 (Wednesday) at the Lim Por Yen Lecture Theatre of the Academy. Prof. Black will share her experience and insights on the impact of the Hospital@Night project on the training and services of doctors. There will be discussion time during the lecture. Fellows who are interested in the DWR development are welcome to attend. Please register by email to [email protected]. Awards The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine is proud to announce the
award of an Honorary Fellowship to the Immediate Past President, Dr. the
Honourable LEONG Che-hung, by the Royal College of Surgeons of Professor Arthur K C Li also received an honor on the same day. He was admitted as a member of the Court of Patrons of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the highest recognition that the Royal College could bestow upon an individual associated with the college. Currently there are only 36 members in the Court of Patrons. The
Academy President. Prof. Grace Tang, was invited to the Convocation of the
Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in New Zealand recently. She
met two Academy Fellows there. Dr. CS Tjiu and Dr SK Hui are Fellows of
the Academy under the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. They were both
admitted Fellows of the RACS at the Convocation on 6 May at Christchurch,
New Zealand.
Health
Research Symposium 2007 Entitled
"Building bridges between research, practice & policy"
the Symposium has invited renowned
international and local speakers to highlight the overall impact of health
services research in the past decade.
It will serve as a forum for participants to share experience and
to present the outcomes of their health services research.
Awards will be presented for outstanding projects and best posters.
The Symposium will be held at the
Health Services Research Fund (HSRF) / Health
Care and Promotion Fund (HCPF) / Research Dissemination Report Electronic copies of the dissemination reports for
11 and 12 completed HSRF/HCPF-funded studies, respectively, are available
for download from the website of the Research Fund Secretariat (www.fhb.gov.hk/grants).
These reports are also contained in the supplements to the Hong
Kong Medical Journal (HKMJ).
Extraordinary General Meeting – 21 June 2007 Council has decided to hold an EGM on 21 June
2007 to admit new Fellows. The
EGM will be held at 19:30 at the Council Chamber, 10/F HKAM Jockey Club

CME/CPD Reminder The
current CME/CPD cycle for Academy Fellows will end on 31 December 2007.
All Fellows who are on the Specialist Register (SR) of the Medical
Council or Dental Council will need to fulfil the requirements of the
Academy to remain on the SR. Fellows,
except those exempted for CME/CPD due to retirement, are also required to fulfil
the requirements to maintain the Academy Fellowship.
Fellows are reminded to make sure they will obtain the required
number of CME/CPD points before the end of this year, and to catch up if
the points they have obtained so far fall
short of the requirements greatly.
2007
Annual Subscriptions Fellows
are reminded that their 2007 Annual Subscriptions were due on 1 January 2007.
Fellows should have received a demand note from either the Academy
or their College. Please be
reminded that it is Council’s policy that subscriptions received by the
Academy after 30 June will be subject to a surcharge of 5% on the
subscription amount. Please
settle your subscription as soon as possible.
Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine - Scientific Symposium on Emergency Medicine Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine will organise a Scientific Symposium on Emergency Medicine "Innovations and Technologies in Emergency Medicine" on 17-18 October 2007 (Wednesday & Thursday) at Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Jockey Club Building. The Academy of Medicine, Singapore and the Academy of Medicine, Malaysia will jointly organise a congress on 19-22 July 2007 at the Raffles City Convention Centre, Singapore. The Council has accepted the organisers’ invitation for the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine to be a supporting organisation this year.
