Past
Presidents Advisory Committee
A Past Presidents Advisory Committee (PPAC)
comprising past presidents of the Academy and Colleges was formed to
offer advice to the Academy Council on matters relating to the development and
policies of the Academy and its Colleges.
Dr. C.H. Leong and Prof. Richard Yu were elected co-convenors and Dr.
Donald Li was elected Honorary Secretary of the PPAC.
The PPAC had its first meeting on 19 May and will hold meeting quarterly.
The founding President of the Academy, Prof Sir David Todd, visited
Hong Kong
recently and also attended the 1st PPAC meeting.
Awards
The
Academy is delighted to announce that the President, Prof. Grace Tang, has been
awarded the Outstanding Women Professional & Entrepreneurs Award 2005.
This
award is a tri-annual event which honours and celebrates the achievements of
women in
Hong Kong
. The award recognizes women who have made significant contribution to their
professions,
Hong Kong
's business environment and society. They are selected for providing outstanding
examples to business leaders, peers and youth alike, in their high standard of
integrity and ethical values.
The
Award carries two categories: Outstanding Women Professionals and Outstanding
Women Entrepreneurs. For each category, there are three recipients. Prof. Tang
has been given the award in the category of Outstanding Women Professionals. The
presentation ceremony will be on 8th June 2005.
CME/CPD
Office
Four
Fellows, namely Prof. L.K. Hung, Dr. Cindy Lam, Dr. Roch Lee and Dr. Ronnie Poon,
were recently appointed CME/CPD Associate Directors to assist the Vice-President
(Edu. & Exams) in achieving the aims of the CME/CPD Office, and to
help manage the academic contents of the CME/CPD materials.
They work for the Academy as CME/CPD Associate Directors on honorary
basis.
Mr.
Ming Chan was appointed as CME/CPD Executive Officer in
March to
coordinate all the CME/CPD activities and related matters.
Before joining the Academy, Ming worked for various professional bodies
including Hong Kong Association of Accounting Technicians, Hong Kong Institute
of Certified Public Accountants and Hong Kong Securities Institute. Ming
graduated from the
University
of
Calgary
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and subsequently obtained Master of
Business Systems from
Monash
University
. He
will also assist in developing and overseeing the MLMS to provide
quality services to Fellows.

Annual Subscriptions
Fellows
are reminded that their 2005
Annual Subscriptions are due on 1 January 2005.
Fellows should have
received
a demand note from either the Academy or their College.
Please be reminded that it is the
Council’s
policy that subscriptions received by the Academy after 30 June will be subject
to a surcharge of 5% on the subscription amount.
Please settle your subscription as soon as possible if you have not yet done so.
Joint Scientific Meeting of the
Royal
College
of
Radiologists & Hong Kong
College
of Radiologists, and the 13th Annual Scientific Meeting of HKCR:
The Royal College of
Radiologists and Hong Kong College of Radiologists will jointly organize a
scientific meeting in Hong Kong this October.
The
meeting will be held from 21st to 23rd October 2005
(Friday to Sunday) at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Jockey Club Building. There
will be scientific symposia, proffered paper and poster presentations, trade
exhibition and book exhibition.
The
meeting aims to bring together radiologists, clinical oncologists and nuclear
medicine physicians practicing locally and overseas for the interflow of
knowledge and advancement. Physicians of other disciplines, radiographers
and other healthcare professionals are also welcome. A Radiographer
Session will be organized to promote exchange of valuable experience with the
College's radiographer colleagues.
For
Radiology, there will be subspecialty focus sessions in Interventional
Radiology and Musculoskeletal Radiology. For Clinical Oncology, the subspecialty
focus session will be on Neuro-oncology.
