Director of CME/CPD

Dr. F.L. Chan formally joined the Academy on 1 January 2004 as Director of CME/CPD.  Dr. Chan is a senior Fellow of the College of Radiologists and has been working for the Academy on honorary basis during the last year.  He will continue to contribute his expertise towards coordination with Colleges for development of CME materials for the Academy’s web-based e-Learning system - MLMS.

Admission of New Fellows

The Academy admitted 137 new Fellows at its 10^th AGM held on 19 December 2003, making total number of Fellows to 4,172.

Best Original Research by Trainee (BORT)

The results of the first BORT was announced during the Conferment Ceremony on 19 December and the medals were presented to the three winners.  The Gold Medal winner will also get a cash reward of HK$15,000.  The Academy would like to thank the Panel of Judges for their time and works.  The Panel consists of Prof. Tony Chung (Panel Chairman), Dr. Kam Chak Wah; Prof. Raymond Liang; Prof. Leung Kwok Sui; Prof. Lo Chung Mau and Prof. Grace Tang.  The Academy would also like to thank the trainees who have submitted their papers for this competition.

2003 Golf Day

Around 90 Fellows and alumni members participated in the tournament on 26 November.  Congratulations to Dr. Kenneth CHAN who won the HKAM President Cup this year.    Winners of the HKU Medical Alumni Cup and CUHK Medical Alumni Cup are Dr. LIU Sau-yu  and Dr. Angus CHAN  respectively.   

The Academy would like to thank members of the Organizing Committee who have contributed their time and effort to make this event successful.  The Academy would also like to thank the Manhattan Card Co. Ltd for their generous sponsorship for this event.

HKAM Manhattan Platinum Card/ Fellowship Card

Fellows should have received a new Fellowship card in November 2003.  This new card is embedded with a smart chip and can be used to capture attendance in certain CME activities organized by the Academy and Colleges.

Fellows holding a HKAM Manhattan Platinum Card can also use it as Fellowship card.  For security reason, Fellows will have to bring their Platinum card in person to the Academy for  card initialization.  After the Platinum card has been initialized, it can be used as a credit card as well as Fellowship card to capture CME attendance electronically at certain events.  However, Fellows will have to initialize their Platinum card whenever a new card is issued to them. 

Card initialization can be done during normal office hours at the Secretariat on 10/F of the Academy Building, or at the Academy Lounge on the 3/F of the building during its operation hours.

2004 Annual Subscription

Fellows are reminded that their 2004 Annual Subscriptions are due on 1 January 2004.  Fellows should receive a demand note from either the Academy or their College.  Please be reminded that it is Council’s policy that subscriptions received by the Academy after 30 June 2004 will be subject to a surcharge of 5% on the subscription amount.  Please settle your subscription as soon as possible.
