Result of Council Election

There were 5 vacancies for the category of Elected Council Members. The Academy received 7 nominations by the deadline of 5 September 2005. 2 candidates subsequently withdrew from the election. The remaining 5 candidates were elected ipso facto. Their term of office began immediately following the AGM on 16 December 2005 and will end at the conclusion of the AGM in 2007.

HKAM’s 3rd Intercollegiate Scientific Meeting

The Academy’s third intercollegiate scientific meeting will be held on 25 February 2006 in conjunction with the Halnan Lecture. The theme is "Disaster: how well prepared are we?" The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food has agreed to be the speaker for the Halnan Lecture.

Honorary Fellows

The Academy has admitted three distinguished individuals in the medical profession as Honorary Fellows. They are Prof. Zhong Nanshan, Dr. David Fang and Dr. the Hon. C.H. Leong. Prof. Zhong is majoring in the management of SARS, the President of the Chinese Medical Association, and a Medical Consultant to the World Health Organisation. Both Dr. Fang and Dr. Leong are Past Presidents of the Academy who have contributed much to the formation of the Academy.

Best Original Research by Trainee (BORT)

The results of the 2005 BORT were announced during the Conferment Ceremony on 16 December 2005 and the medals were presented to the 4 winners. The Gold Medal winner will also get a cash reward of HK$15,000. The Academy would like to thank the Panel of Judges for their time and works. The Panel consists of Prof. Tony Chung (Panel Chairman), Dr. Kam Chak Wah; Prof. Raymond Liang; Prof. Leung Kwok Sui; Prof. Lo Chung Mau and Dr. C.T. Hung. The Academy would also like to thank the trainees who have submitted their papers for this competition.

Professor Grace Tang the President has been appointed by the Chief Executive as Member of the Women's Commission for a term of 3 years effective from 15 January 2006.

2006 Annual Subscriptions

Fellows are reminded that their 2006 Annual Subscriptions are due on 1 January 2006. Fellows should receive a demand note from either the Academy or their College. Please be reminded that it is Council’s policy that subscriptions received by the Academy after 30 June will be subject to a surcharge of 5% on the subscription amount. Please settle your subscription as soon as possible.
