Diploma in Medical Informatics
On 30 September and 1 October, 16 participants attended a weekend workshop which started the inaugural session of the Medical Informatics diploma course. A joint opening ceremony between Hong Kong and Edinburgh was conducted via teleconference during the weekend. The following are some comments from the participants:
"The weekend workshop served the purpose of allowing us to meet fellow participants, and getting familiarized with the course software. One disadvantage is that the course is conducted over the Internet, so students are not supervised directly. However, this allows flexibility as we all work long and irregular hours." - Dr. Y.M. Lee, Singapore.
"As a practising neuro-surgeon running a national and continental society and teaching in a university my main problem is time. I must congratulate the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine for taking the initiative. I may be one of the oldest students and it is going to be quite an experience submitting assignments and doing my homework instead of evaluating doctoral theses!" - Dr. Krishnan Ganapathy, Chennai, India.
Registration for the diploma course is every four months. Online registration for the February 2001 course will close on 8 January 2001. Further information about the course can be obtained from the Web site at: www.diploma.rcsed.ac.uk.
