Dr. Lau Chor-chiu was appointed the Cluster Chief Executive of Hong Kong East Cluster, Hospital Authority (HA) in May 2011, responsible for public hospital services in Wanchai, Eastern part of Hong Kong Island and outlying Islands (excluding Lantau Island). As one of the top executives of HA, he is currently responsible for the operation of six HA hospitals with over 3,000 beds and a total establishment of over 6,800 staff.

Over the past years, Dr. Lau has been actively participating in volunteer work of healthcare service. He was the Honorary Secretary of Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (2012 – 2016) and President of Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine (2005 – 2011). He is currently the Vice-President (General Affairs) of Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Director of Hong Kong Red Cross and Chairman of Health & Care Service Management Committee of Hong Kong Red Cross.

Dr. Lau is one of the foundation fellows of Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine. He has made a significant contribution to the evolution from "casualty" to "emergency medicine". Dr. Lau has been instrumental in the development of emergency aeromedical patient transfer, and is one of the first senior Air Medical Officers in Hong Kong.

Dr. Lau is also a pioneer in extending emergency medical services beyond the boundaries of the hospital. His professionalism and selfless contribution to the community is exemplified by his co-ordinating overseas disaster support teams, including during the tourist coach accident in Taiwan (2004), South Asian tsunami in Thailand (2004), Sichuan earthquake (2008) and the Manila hostage incident (2010).
