Dr. Lau Chor-chiu, GMSM, MH, JP

Dr. Lau Chor-chiu is an Emergency Medicine Specialist, currently the Vice-President (General Affairs) of Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. He is the Chief Operating Officer of the HKSH Eastern Medical Centre from August 2018. He has served the Hospital Authority for years with his last position as Cluster Chief Executive of Hong Kong East Cluster.

Over the past years, Dr. Lau has been actively participating in volunteer work of healthcare service. He was the Honorary Secretary of Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (2012 – 2016) and President of Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine (2005 – 2011). He is currently a member of the Medical Council of Hong Kong and Honorary Associate Professor of Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong and Deputy Chairman of Hong Kong Red Cross.

Dr. Lau is one of the foundation fellows of Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine. He has made a significant contribution to the evolution from "casualty" to "emergency medicine". Dr. Lau has been instrumental in the development of emergency aeromedical patient transfer, and is one of the first senior Air Medical Officers in Hong Kong.

Dr. Lau is also a pioneer in extending emergency medical services beyond the boundaries of the hospital. His professionalism and selfless contribution to the community is exemplified by his co-ordinating overseas disaster support teams, including during the tourist coach accident in Taiwan (2004), South Asian tsunami in Thailand (2004), Sichuan earthquake (2008) and the Manila hostage incident (2010).
